The Bavarians won the match at the Allianz Arena courtesy of goals by Mario Mandzukic and Mitchell Weiser in the semi-final of the friendly tournament.

The match came within a week of the side's loss to arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund in the DFL-Supercup.

Despite missing out on the opportunity to win the first of six possible trophies, the Spaniard has been impressed with his players as they seem to have adapted well to his possession-based tactics.

"I am quite astonished how easily my players are able to understand my ideas and how they are able to reassemble it on the pitch. My team is very intelligent. My team is great team," he enthused to RTL after the game.

"The match wasn't easy to play. Sao Paulo is in the middle of their season and we are just going to start our campaign. But it was a deserverd victory."

"Mandzukic is an excellent player, who scored a great goal. Weiser is a very good player. He's able to play many different positions on the pitch. For me as a coach, he's a very interesting player.

"Bastian [Schweinsteigger] is very important for us. He is very intelligent. He's got personality. I am very satisfied with him."

Franck Ribery is also happy that Guardiola is applying his own tactical methods even if the coach might not employ two flying wingers down the flanks as Jupp Heynckes was inclined to do in their treble-winning campaign last season.

"Last season we won everything and if we didn't make any changes, our opponents would be more able to adapt to us," he explained to the Bundesliga website.

"The new system makes our game even harder to second-guess. We can change tactics mid-match or switch a few players around to give the opposition even more trouble."

And the France international is confident that, despite their defeat in the Supercup, the European champions will succeed in their quest to solidify their tag as the best club from Germany.

"We want to win the Bundesliga again. That's our priority, to show again who's top dog in Germany," he continued.

"Furthermore we want to go as far as possible in the Champions League again."

Bayern will face Manchester City in the Audi Cup final on Thursday night after the English side defeated AC Milan in the tournament's other semi-final.
