At the halfway point of the season, Bayern currently enjoy a healthy nine-point lead at the top of the table, but also remain firmly in the running for the DFB-Pokal and the UEFA Champions League.

However, having lost out to Borussia Dortmund in the title race in the last two seasons, Schweinsteiger is adamant reclaiming the league crown remains his side's main goal.

"My main objective is winning the Bundesliga title," he told Kicker. "That's the top priority this season.

"Of course, I also have my eyes on the Champions League though.

"Last year was obviously very disappointing for us as we did not win any silverware. Unfortunately, we were not paying enough attention to certain details in a number of games.

"We have significantly improved in that aspect this season. Our team is a bit stronger now.

"That's why we are now winning games by being patient. That is a quality in itself."

Bayern's cause this season has been helped by Dortmund's inconsistent form but Schweinsteiger still believes they could pose a threat not just on the domestic front, but in Europe as well.

"You can expect a lot from Dortmund," he added. "Their biggest advantage is that not many teams know how they play.

"Manchester City, Real Madrid and Ajax found out the hard way [in the Champions League group stages]. They can go far in the Champions League."

The Germany international made his Bayern debut in 2002 and has won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal on five occasions with the Bavarian outfit.
