Shaqiri established himself as one of Europe's hottest prospects last season after starring for Swiss giants Basel, and duly earned himself a move to Bayern, who reportedly paid a fee of €11.6million for his services.

However, he has failed to force his way into coach Jupp Heynckes' first XI and has had to settle for substitute appearances in the league, as well as starts in the DFB-Pokal and the UEFA Champions League.

Still, the Switzerland international is determined to play a more prominent role for the Bundesliga giants, and has vowed to work hard in his bid to achieve that aim.

"I want to become a key figure at the club and win lots of trophies," he said on Bayern's official website. "I'll work hard for that and I think I'm on the right track.

"My goal for the rest of the season is even more playing time, although I know we have a very strong squad.

"Superb players sometimes drop to the bench. And when I do play, for five, 20 or 90 minutes, I give it everything.

"The coach needs to know he can count on me, because that's the only way to go."

Despite being only 21, Shaqiri has already represented Switzerland 22 times and has racked up seven goals in the process, including a hat-trick in a 3-1 Euro 2012 qualifier win over Bulgaria in September 2011.
