The Netherlands international's current deal expires at the end of this season and the Royal Blues are understood to be desperate to keep him at the Veltins-Arena.

However, general manager Horst Heldt has now revealed negotiations will not continue till December as the player is yet to decide if he wants to remain in Gelsenkirchen.

"We have made the decision not to hold any talks until December and wait [to see] how things develop," he told Sport1. "That's what the player wants and I can live with that.

"I have the feeling that Klaas-Jan is not ready to make a decision on his future at the moment. We want to give him the time he needs to make a well-thought decision.

"My goal is to convince him to stay with Schalke. We will re-open talks either in December or January. I demand a quick decision at that point, though."

Huntelaar joined Schalke at the start of the 2010/11 season and scored an astonishing 48 goals in 47 games in all competition last term.
