Hummels keen on move abroad in future

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels stated that he definitely plans to play in another European league once he has achieved all that he can with his current side.

"Please stay at Dortmund!"

The 23-year-old has been the backbone of a resilient Dortmund defence and has also made himself an integral part of Germany coach Joachim Low's plans for the national team.

A superb season in a Dortmund shirt began to attract the attention of a great number of European clubs over the summer and many scouts and officials were said to have paid a visit to the Westfalenstadion in order to sound out the possibility of a lucrative move.

But Hummels was ultimately persuaded by the club to stay on for five more years and they offered a new deal for the positionally-sharp defender.

The central defender, however, does not believe that he will be playing in the Bundesliga for the entirety of his career as he told Bild: "One day I will say that I am keen on a transfer."

"To play football in a new country would be flattering. I already had offers and one enquiry from these offers was really one of interest for me.

"But I told myself that the time is not right for such a move. There was a reason behind my recent contract extension. When you are a Borussia Dortmund player then you do not move to all clubs.

"In the Bundesliga it would just be about Bayern Munich, but this club has no shortage in my position.

"In Europe there are just about four to five clubs that would really interest me."

It is speculated that the duo of Manchester United and Manchester City were most interested in fortifying their defensive positions and had kept close tabs on the player during the off-season.
