Goals from Julian Draxler and Lewis Holtby were enough to hand Schalke all three points at the Playmobil-Stadion as they comfortably saw off their newly-promoted opponents.

And while Howedes admits he was satisfied with their overall display, he insists his team-mates have to be more clinical in front of goal.

"Furth fought well," he said on the club's official website. "They went for every ball, but we expected that.

"However, I think we were the better team. Still, we did not finish enough chances.

"We had many good moments and scoring opportunities, which could have led to two or three more goals, but we didn't take them.

"The important thing is that we picked up three points. That's what matters most in the end."

Schalke are next in action on Tuesday when they get their UEFA Champions League campaign underway away to Olympiacos.
