Despite the comfortable winning margin, Bayern actually struggled to break down their opponents in the opening exchanges of the game, until summer signing Mario Mandzukic struck in the 32nd minute.
Switzerland international Xherdan Shaqiri then doubled his side's lead on the hour mark, but it took the Bundesliga giants until the final ten minutes to wrap up the game thanks to further goals from Mandzukic and Claudio Pizarro.
Speaking after the game, Heynckes revealed it was important that his side remained patient despite initially facing some stern opposition.
"We had a few problems in the first 20 minutes," he said on the club's official website. "Our opponents were very disciplined and gave us no space.
"After the first goal, we saw the game comfortably through to the end."
The ex-Bayer Leverkusen supremo also hailed the influence of Shaqiri, who had been brought on at halftime for the ineffective Franck Ribery.
"The introduction of Shaqiri made us more dominant, effective and better in the second half."
