After finishing last season empty-handed, Bayern Munich are desperate to prevent a repeat in this campaign.
The Bavarian club have openly stated their intention to wrest the Bundesliga crown from Borussia Dortmund's hands. However, Jurgen Klopp's men have done the opposite, choosing to downplay their ability to retain the title and setting themselves an objective of qualifying for the Champions League.
Rummenigge shared with Bild that he was not impressed with Dortmund's supposed humility, subtly labelling their statement of intent as a falsehood.
"We have the objective of becoming German champions, unlike a certain team from West-Germany, we are not afraid to express our ambitions," he said.
"We are a bit more straightforward in that regard. We know that we have a good team."
Besides trumping Bayern Munich in the previous season's Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund also beat Jupp Heynckes' men in the DFB-Pokal final.
