A dominant campaign from Dortmund saw them cruise to the title last term after they picked up a record 81 points from 34 games, finishing eight ahead of second-placed Bayern Munich.
However, the biggest surprise came from Schalke and Gladbach, who both claimed spots in the top four to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, after finishing 14th and 16th respectively the season before, with the latter only avoiding relegation via the playoffs.
And while BVB head into the new campaign with a good chance of winning a third consecutive league title, Zorc is of the belief that both Schalke and Gladbach could emerge as genuine title contenders.
"It would be naive to think that you can dominate the Bundesliga for years," he told Der Westen. "There are a few other clubs that have good teams and could challenge.
"Schalke and Borussia Monchengladbach could both be surprise contenders."
Nonetheless, Zorc is under no illusions who Dortmund's main rivals will once again be.
"If we focus on facts and reality, it is no understatement to say that Bayern Munich are the favourites to win the Bundesliga."
Schalke coach Huub Stevens also believes Gladbach, who have lost a number of key players in Marco Reus and Dante, will mount a credible charge for the title, although he feels Champions League football may be a distraction.
"This could be Borussia Monchengladbach's year," he told Sport 1. "We'll have to see how they cope with European competition though."
Despite losing both Reus and Dante, who have joined Dortmund and Bayern respectively, Gladbach have secured the services of highly-rated Netherlands international Luuk de Jong from Twente, adding to their summer captures of Granit Xhaka and Alvaro Dominguez.
