Twente are resigned to losing talismanic striker De Jong amidst increasing speculation linking the striker away from the club, with Gladbach, Newcastle United and Benfica reportedly hot on the trail of the Dutch international.
However, the Bundesliga side are favourites to land the 21-year-old after De Jong previously admitted in an interview that Gladbach was his 'preferred' destination.
Gladbach, who finished 4th in the Bundesliga last season, are working hard to negotiate a deal with Twente for De Jong and hopes a deal can be struck before commencing their pre-season training, giving the striker more time to bed into the team and allowing him to join in their training camp.
Speaking to Bild, Gladbach's financial chief Stephan Schippers said: "In general we have until August 31, but it's clear that every club and every coach is interested that a player can also participate in the training camp."
However, he was adamant that Gladbach would not pay over the odds for the player, stating: "We won't buy him for any price."
De Jong was in stellar form for Twente last season, scoring an incredible 32 goals in 50 appearances for the Dutch outfit.
