Reus, 23, played for Borussia Mönchengladbach before sealing a switch to the Bundesliga champions in the summer.

He was a key component of a fearsome attack that took the Bundesliga by storm in the first half of the season and nearly propelled the Foals into title contention.

Known for his skill and ability to lob goalkeepers from distance, the young German winger will likely pair up with Mario Gotze to form a potent midfield combination. Reus scored 18 goals and made 9 assists in the Bundesliga in the preceding term.

The poll carried out by German players' union VDV saw Reus earning the top spot ahead of Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery and Bundesliga top-scorer Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Bayern's 20-year-old full-back David Alaba garnered 27.4% of the vote for the newcomer of the season accolade beating out Gladbach pair Patrick Herrmann (16.6%) and Marc-André ter Stegen (12.5%).

Gladbach coach Lucien Favre won the coach of the year award with 43.3% of the vote, beating Dortmund's Jürgen Klopp who led his side to a league and cup double.

Favre recently signed an extension to his contract and said he was optimistic of the future with the club after ensuring his side reached the UEFA Champions League Play-Offs.

"I'm looking forward to the attractive challenges ahead of us," he said.

Dortmund open the season with the DFL-Supercup match against Bayern on August 12.
