German giants Bayern Munich have been linked with Manchester City's Edin Dzeko since the end of the season. However, reports indicate that talks over the striker have stalled because the Bavarian club are unwilling to meet City's valuation of Dzeko.

After the loss of Ivica Olic to Wolfsburg at the end of April, Bayern are left with only Mario Gomez and Claudio Pizarro in terms of options upfront. With Dzeko now looking an increasingly unlikely signing, manager Jupp Heynckes is keen to turn his attention elsewhere.

One player who has caught Bayern's eye with his goals at Euro 2012 is Olic's compatriot Mandzukic. Since signing for Wolfsburg in 2010, the Croatian has scored 20 goals in 56 appearances for the club, and the three strikes he registered for Slaven Bilic's squad in the European Championships only served to bolster his reputation.

With two Bundesliga seasons under his belt, Mandzukic provides a convenient and reliable option for the Bavarian side, who are keen to strengthen their ranks and wrest back the title from rivals Borussia Dortmund. Latest news indicates that the forward has already agreed to personal terms with Bayern, while the club continue to negotiate with Wolfsburg over a transfer fee believed to be in the region of 12 to 15 million Euros.
