Scoring 13 goals in 31 league appearances for Borussia Dortmund this season, Kagawa has attracted plenty of interest from other European clubs. As such, it is unsurprising Dortmund have moved to offer the Japanese a contract extension despite there being one year left on his current deal.
However, Klopp has confirmed that Kagawa has turned down the club's offer, and the German believes his midfielder is seeking a move to the Premier League because he considers the competition to be more prestigious than the Bundesliga.
"We cannot take away Shinji's childhood and his Japanese culture, where Shinji was born, our league means nothing, there is only the English Premier League," Klopp said to Suddeutsche Zeitung.
Nonetheless, the Dortmund manager is convinced any player choosing to leave the club now will do so with a heavy heart, as the squad have hit the pinnacle of German football with their Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal win.
"But it is certain that Shinji had to do something incredibly difficult, to make a decision against us. Anyone who leaves us carries the greatest doubt as to whether he makes the right decision," Klopp stated.
