The victory, which came courtesy of braces from Robert Lewandowski and Jakub Blaszczykowski, helped BVB end the season on 81 points, the highest tally any club has ever set in the German top flight.

And while Klopp is aware creating such a record isn't easy, he hailed the way his side effortlessly made history.

"We have, once again, fought well in two difficult games but the team have made it look easy," he said in his post-match press conference.

"This has crowned our season. I told the guys today [Saturday], 'we will not have 81 points given to us in the flesh after the game but the championship trophy instead.'

"If we look back in 30 years, we can do so knowing that, so far, no other club has earned more points."

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc was quick to echo his coach's sentiments, saying: "The previous record was 40 years old. This shows what a gigantic achievement that was.

"I can only salute the players."

Captain Sebastian Kehl, who missed most of last season's title-winning campaign, admitted it was a special feeling to win the title having played a key role this term.

"This title victory is, for me, worth more than last year's," he said. "In addition, the team have accomplished more than last year because it was more difficult this time round.

"Last year we became surprise German champions. This year the signs were somewhat different. The fact that we still have created several records shows that this team is intact."

Dortmund will now be looking to do the double when they take on Bayern Munich in the DFB-Pokal final on May 12.
