Wiese open to move abroad

Werder Bremen and Germany goalkeeper Tim Wiese does not rule out moving on to another league at the end of the season when his contract expires.

The 29-year-old has been widely speculated to follow compatriot Per Mertesacker out of Weder Bremen last summer after the club declared that they could not afford to offer them both a new contract.

Wiese has been an integral part of the Werder Bremen squad since joining them for free from Kaiserslautern in 2006, but the club slumped to a 13th-place finish last season, their lowest position since gaining promotion in 1981.

He told Kicker: "Next year I will be available on a free transfer, there are a lot of possibilities. I'm only 29 years old. Another league would appeal to me if things do not work out at Werder,"

Things may work out for Wiese at Werder Bremen, with the club sitting joint top of the Bundesliga table with Bayern Munich after winning four of their first five league games.

He feels that the atmosphere at the club is a factor to the strong start to the season.

"Things are going well and we're successful because it's fun again. We play football together, it's as simple as that,"

Werder Bremen will look to continue their fine form in the Bundesliga against Nurnberg on Saturday.
