The 27-year-old Dutch international only joined Schalke last summer from AC Milan and scored eight Bundesliga goals last season.
He told Bild.de that he wants to remain in Gelsenkirchen although he has been reportedly courted by the likes of long-term admirers Manchester United.
"I can exclude moving to a big club at the moment," he said.
"There is nothing to it. I want to stay and play for Schalke so I can enjoy a good season.
"A striker always wants to score as many as possible, but what's more important is the team's success. But I do want to score goals."
