Lasogga returns to training for Hamburg

Hamburg coach Mirko Slomka has received a boost ahead of his side's next relegation battle against Freiburg with top-scorer Pierre-Michel Lasogga returning to training.

Hertha take the lead in the 7th minute.

Lasogga last played on March 1 in the derby defeat to Werder Bremen, but he is in line for a return at just the right time for the northern side, who are without the suspended Hakan Calhanoglu.

"We're delighted to have Pierre back," Slomka said at a press conference. "If everything remains the way they are in our final training session and Pierre puts his thumbs up, then he will be involved on Wednesday."

With Calhanoglu out, Rafael van der Vaart will have to assume even more responsibility as a playmaker.

"He is going to define the game for us in decisive moments," said Slomka, who, after losing to Stuttgart at the weekend, is wary of another defeat to a fellow relegation candidate.

"Freiburg really get involved in the tackles and on loose balls so we've got to try to win these duels," he added.

"We're really looking forward to this game. We're at home and we want to put Freiburg under pressure."

With two wins in a row, Freiburg have managed to pull themselves out of the bottom three, but only just.

"We're still in it with the water up to our necks," their coach Christian Streich said after a 3-1 win over Werder Bremen at the weekend.

"If we give just an inch against Hamburg on Wednesday, then they'll put five past us."

Captain Julian Schuster added: "We've got to give everything, every day, to be successful. Everybody must know that this is the only way."
