Wolfsburg draw disappoints director Allofs

Wolfsburg director of sport Klaus Allofs was left bitterly disappointed by his side's failure to beat bottom-placed Eintracht Braunschweig on Saturday.

A 1-1 draw dented the Wolves' Champions League qualification aspirations and saw them drop to sixth with Borussia Monchengladbach now just a point behind in seventh.

Only the top six in the Bundesliga qualify for Europe next season, unless the two DFB-Pokal finalists are among them, in which case seventh would also be enough, but Allofs expects better from his team.

"We've got to learn to fight more," he said, "A point at the bottom-placed club is too little.

"We're pretty disappointed. The second half wasn't good. A team with ambitions like ours have got to play better than this.

"It annoys me what we did in the second half, which was nowhere near the way we played in the first half and we've thrown two points away very frustratingly."

Wolfsburg's failure to hold or add to a 1-0 lead after appearing to be in control of the game was particularly worrying for Allofs.

"The way we conceded was not on," he said. "We were in control and then we concede - that's not on. You can't defend like that.

"The game changes then. Braunschweig were chasing the game before that and we just didn't get it right.

"We can and must play better than this."
