Eintracht Frankfurt captain Pirmin Schwegler is set to play in Sunday's relegation tussle with Freiburg despite fracturing his ribs and breaking his nose.

The 27-year-old will play through the pain barrier, earning the respect and recognition of his coach Armin Veh, who has called the Swiss international "an exemplary professional".

"He's got a fantastic attitude," Veh said at a press conference. "He's valuable to us, not only becase he's a good player."

Veh will need the same show of courage from the rest of his squad in the battle with 17th-placed Freiburg on Sunday.

Their opponents are currently seven points behind and in desperate need of a win to move out of the bottom three.

According to coach Christian Streich, Freiburg have been getting closer to that elusive first win in seven games, but they just need to provide the end product to match their excellent build-up work.

"There were three or four situations against Dortmund where we could have played the final ball and our players would have been free for a shot," he said.

"We've just got to keep our cool under pressure from our opponents and play the right ball."

Streich was impressed with the starting debut of Philipp Zulechner against Dortmund a week ago and is set to field the Austrian from the beginning once again.

"He did a decent job, was very agile and has pace and unpredictability," Streich said. "They are all things that do us good."

Streich is still without the injured Vaclav Pilar and Sebastian Freis, stressing he does not have the player options open to Veh, two of which - Jan Rosenthal and Johannes Flum - played for Freiburg last season.

"They have a huge squad," he said. "With Rosenthal, Christian Aigner, Joselu or Vaclav Kadlec, they have plenty of different options up front."
