Hecking not worried by Bayern run

Bayern Munich's 48-game unbeaten run in the Bundesliga does not terrify Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking.

And he hopes people throughout Europe will be talking about his side come Saturday evening.

For that to happen, though, the former Nurnberg and Hannover coach knows his side are going to need to deliver something special. Something significantly better than a week ago, when they were beaten 6-2 by Hoffenheim.

"To beat Bayern, you need the perfect game," Hecking said at a press conference.

"All of us have got to exceed ourselves. Should a small door open up in this game, we've got to be there ready to get through it.

"But we have this quality. The team have proven that they have the morale and the quality.

"I'm looking forward to an open game in which we give it everything we've got."

The risk in doing that is playing right into Bayern's hands, though, and Wolfsburg's director of sport Klaus Allofs has warned of the consequences.

"Bayern are in such good form at the moment that there is very much the risk of you losing heavily, even in your own stadium," Allofs told the SID agency.

"But we've also shown what we're capable of and this is a chance for us to show where we are."

For Bayern, it is also an opportunity to show how ready they are for Arsenal in the Champions League next Tuesday, and their director of sport Matthias Sammer has no doubt that they will be ready for both games.

"Is there anybody else who works so painstakingly, as if there is no tomorrow?" he told Sport1.de. "It may not only be our quality which is currently superior, but also our mentality."

In view of the midweek Champions League game, Bayern coach Pep Guardiola is likely to rotate his side, although that is nothing new.

Even captain Philipp Lahm found himself sitting on the bench last weekend as Bastian Schweinsteiger returned to the midfield, although both played for Germany on Wednesday and could start together on Saturday.
