The 32-year-old's current deal is due to run out at the end of the season but he is open in his desire to stay in Germany although he knows he is not first choice in defence.
The Dutchman started his career at Roda JC before moving to SC Paderborn and then on to Monchengladbach in 2007.
Given Roda are struggling in the Eredivisie, just a point above the bottom three, Brouwers would be a welcome addition but his wish is to remain in Germany for at least two more years.
Brouwers told Voetbal International: "I would prefer to stay at Gladbach, still I am here enjoying myself.
"If I can extend for two seasons then that's my preference.
"If I have views to regularly play football - if not, then Roda JC are a very serious option.
"At present, the competition at Gladbach is greater but I always keep hoping that the club wants to extend.
"Anyhow I want to play football for two seasons at the top level, then I'll see from year to year."
