Ninth straight win sees Wanderers go clear

Western Sydney Wanderers moved five points clear at the top of the A-League after claiming their ninth consecutive victory by edging out Wellington Phoenix FC 2-1.

Shinji Ono put the Wanderers ahead in the seventh minute from the penalty spot after Youssouf Hersi had been fouled by Tony Lochhead in the area although Jeremy Brockie levelled proceedings with a close-range finish midway through the half.

But Mark Bridge netted from the spot three minutes after half-time, with Ono substituted at the interval, after Vince Lia had handled in the area and the Wanderers held on to walk away with the spoils.
