Josep Gombau's side, who emerged triumphant in the First Division League, FA Cup and League Cup in the 2011/12 season, took the lead at the Mong Kok Stadium two minutes before the half-hour mark when Hong Kong international Chiu Siu Kei opened the scoring.

Three minutes later, Jordi, who used to be on the books of La Liga outfit Espanyol, doubled their lead, before grabbing his second and wrapping up the three points in the 66th minute.

Kitchee, who reached the Round of 16 last year before being eliminated by Arema, are next in continental action when they visit Singaporean giants Warriors FC.

In Tuesday's only other game, Yangon United of Myanmar recorded an impressive 3-0 win over Indonesian side Persibo Bojonegoro in Group F.

Following a goalless first half, Ivorian striker Adama Kone opened the scoring in the 56th minute after latching onto a neat flick-on by Cezar Augusto, before doubling his tally seven minutes later when he headed home a Kyaw Ko Ko corner.

With the win already in the bag, Kone capped off a fine individual display by completing his hat-trick in the second minute of injury-time, racing through after beating the Persibo offside trap before rounding Happy Kurniawan Dwi Putra and slotting into an unguarded net.

Yangon's next outing will see them travel to Hong Kong to take on Sunray Cave JC Sun Hei on March 12.
