In a keenly-contested encounter, 18-year-old midfielder OJ Porteria scored the only goal of the game 12 minutes from time to down a plucky Myanmar side that had their fair share of chances.
Fulham goalkeeper Neil Etheridge had to be at his best to keep the hosts at bay, especially during the opening exchanges when he made two good saves inside the first 15 minutes.
Although they found themselves pegged back, Philippines did manage to make the most of their brief forays forward and Manuel Ott came close to breaking the deadlock in the 35th minute with a long-range effort.
Emelio Caligdong also had a sighting at goal two minutes after the hour mark when he met a Phil Younghusband cross and turned the ball towards goal, only to be denied by the Myanmar goalkeeper.
But the Azkals finally found the breakthrough in the 78th minute when Porteria latched onto a neat pass from substitute Ian Araneta and unleashed a strike from the edge of the area that sailed into the back of the net.
Philippines will be looking to book their spot at the 2014 Challenge Cup next month when they entertain Cambodia, Brunei and Turkmenistan in Group E.
