Safiq is currently on international duty with Harimau Malaya as they prepare for the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup, but his future has been the subject of speculation in recent weeks.
Nonetheless, the 25-year-old has since confirmed he will be joining Johor, who look set to be a real powerhouse in 2013 as they are reportedly close to signing a plethora of Malaysia internationals, including Aidil Zafuan, Zaquan Adha, Azmi Muslim and Muslim Ahmad, as well as striker Dani Guiza, who was part of the Spain squad that won Euro 2008.
"I am still waiting for my contract with Selangor to end on November 30 before I officially sign for Johor," he told Bernama.
Safiq also confirmed he will be signing a one-year contract with an option for another 12-month extension, as he wants to keep his options open in case an offer from a club outside the region comes his way.
"I have informed the Johor FA that my contract will be 'one plus one' because if I get an offer from a club outside Southeast Asia in 2014, I will join them," he added.
Safiq is currently regarded as one of the best playmakers in the region and won the Super League twice with the Red Giants in 2009 and 2010.
