Hairuddin, who is affectionately known as 'Hai-O' to Malaysian fans, started his career with the Turtles back in 1999 before moving to Pahang four years later, where he won the Super League and the Malaysia FA Cup in 2004 and 2006 respectively.
The 33-year-old is currently preparing for Saturday's Malaysia Cup final against Kelantan, where he will be looking to win the competition for the fifth time in his career, but already uncertainty has been cast over his future after Terengganu manager Marzuki Sulong revealed he is on the their list of transfer targets.
"We expect Hai-O, as a son of Terengganu, to come back to the state after being away for so long," he told Bernama.
"Our door is always open to Hai-O, but it's up to him to decide."
Should Terengganu indeed succeed in luring Hairuddin back to the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium, it would go a long way in reviving the spirits of all those involved with the club, following a troubled season that saw both Mat Zan Mat Aris and Peter Butler axed as coaches.
