32-time champions Selangor put one foot in the Malaysia Cup semi-finals on Tuesday after recording a 3-1 win over Johor FC in their quarter-final first-leg clash.

Talismanic skipper Safiq Rahim opened the scoring for the Red Giants at the Pasir Gudang Corporation Stadium with a trademark freekick after 11 minutes, before fellow Malaysia international Bunyamin Umar doubled their tally in the 23rd minute.

Amri Yahyah then added a third two minutes later to give the visitors a commanding lead at the break, although Akmal Nor pulled one back for the Bees nine minutes into the second half.

Selangor's night was however soured in the 66th minute when Bunyamin received his marching orders, meaning he will miss the return leg at the Shah Alam Stadium next Friday.

In Tuesday's other game, newly-promoted Pahang edged LIONSXII 2-1 at the Darulmakmur Stadium.

Fauzi Roslan opened the scoring for the hosts in the ninth minute when his shot squirmed under Izwan Mahbud and into the back of the net, but a comical own-goal by Jalaluddin Jaafar saw the visitors pull level 11 minutes later.

Nonetheless, Pahang continued to look the more adventurous of the two sides and grabbed a deserving winner in the 75th minute when Hafiz Kamal's cross-cum-shot crept in at the far post.

The other two quarter-final clashes get underway later this week with Kelantan visiting Felda United at the Hang Jebat Stadium on Saturday, while high-flying ATM host Negri Sembilan a day earlier at the Majlis Perbandaran Selayang Stadium.
