In the final leg of their three-match tour which started with a 0-0 draw against Cambodia and was followed by a 2-0 triumph over the Lions, the Azkals were expected to overcome their less-illustrious opponents despite being without key trio James Younghusband, Philip Younghusband and Jerry Lucena.

Nonetheless, fatigue was always going to be an issue for Michael Weiss' side given they were playing their third game in six days and it showed as they looked extremely sluggish in the first half.

Seven minutes after the break, Laos took the lead from the spot after Rob Gier had conceded a foul inside the area and 12 minutes from time, the hosts were awarded another penalty, which they duly converted to double their lead.

Philippines however did manage to pull one back deep into injury-time through Gier, but it ultimately was not enough as the Laotians held on for an impressive victory.

Elsewhere on Monday, Indonesia fell to a 2-0 defeat to Korea DPR at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta.

Following a goalless first half, Garuda were reduced to ten men in the 66thwhen Persija Jakarta defender Handi Ramdhan was handed his marching orders and immediately after, Pak Song-chol scored the put the visitors in front.

With a numerical advantage, the North Koreans were never in danger of letting their lead slip and went on to seal the result in the 76th minute when Jong Il-gwan found the back of the net.
