Despite holding a comfortable lead at the top of the table, Muangthong's title hopes were dealt a slight blow last week when they were held to a 1-1 draw by defending champions Buriram United.
And they again failed to pick up maximum points on Sunday at the Chonburi Muncipality Stadium, although they were lucky to head home with one after Teerasil Dangda netted an equaliser 11 minutes from time.
The Sharks edged ahead three minutes after the half-hour mark through Nopannon Kachaplayuk but Dutch forward Adnan Barakat pulled his side level in the 53rd minute, only for the hosts to claim the lead again ten minutes later through talismanic striker Pipob On-mo.
However, Teerasil popped up in the 79th minute to net his 16th goal of the season and steal a share of the spoils for the Twin Qilins.
Despite the minor setback, Muangthong remain ten points clear of Chonburi, who are a further five ahead of Buriram.
BEC Tero Sasana's recent slump continued as they went a fourth game without a win after playing out a 1-1 draw at TOT.
The hosts went ahead in the 16th minute through Rodoljub Paunovic, and while that was cancelled out in the 33rd minute by Amorn Thammanarm, the Fire Dragons were unable to find a way past a dogged TOT defence after that as both sides had to settle for a point.
Chainat edged further away from relegation zone with a 2-0 win over Thai Port courtesy of second-half goals from Narongchai Vachiraban and Dejan Vukadinovic, while Wuachon United and Pattaya United played out a 0-0 draw.
Finally, Police United remained second from bottom after falling to a 1-0 defeat at home to Army United, who had Jakrapong Somboon's 47th-minute winner to thank for all three points.
