The Wanderers, who will make their debut in the top flight of Australian football in the coming season, are still in the process of finalising their squad, but have added Caira, as well ex-Gold Coast United goalkeeper Jerrad Tyson and midfielder Jason Trifiro from South Melbourne.

The capture of Caira is likely to draw the most interest considering he spent the last three-and-a-half years contracted to Villa, and the player himself has admitted his decision to return to Australia was influenced by the chance to be part of Western Sydney's inaugural squad.

"It's great that I get to become a foundation player but it's going to be a tough first season," the 19-year-old told The Age.

The defender earned a trial at the Parramatta Stadium after catching the eye of Wanderers coach Tony Popovic during a trip to England, and Caira reveals he is looking forward to working under the former Australia international.

"I've always been interested to work with Popovic and I've finally got the chance," he added.

"Hopefully I can have a few good seasons here... to help me get back into an European club [and] help keep up my progress with the Young Socceroos [the Australia U-20 side]."

Apart from Caira, Tyson and Trifiro, Western Sydney have also confirmed the signings of Australia international Michael Beauchamp, who played in the Bundesliga with Nuremberg, and ex-Newcastle Jets captain Tarek Elrich amongst others.
