LIONSXII warned against complacency

LIONSXII coach V Sundramoorthy has warned his side that they still have a long way to go before they can say they have achieved anything in the Malaysia Super League.

LIONSXII vs Kelantan

Last weekend's battling 1-0 away in Sabah, came hot on the heels of a creditable home win against Kuala Lumpur, a draw in Kedah and an opening day defeat to reigning champions Kelantan.

Having earned seven points from their last three games, the rapidly improving Singapore-based LIONSXII are now riding high in sixth place.

However, ahead of Saturday's high profile clash with Terengganu, Sundramoorthy has warned his players that they cannot afford to take anything for granted.

"We can't get carried away as this is only the beginning. We still have a long way to go," said of the team which is Singapore's first representative in Malaysia's top-flight for 17 years.

"There has to be more to come from us. We have to be consistent. You really are only as good as your last game and you have to keep improving.

"Our strengths are our teamwork and discipline and we have to bank on that."

Those strengths look set to be severely tested on Saturday when high-flying Terengganu visit the Jalan Besar Stadium.

The Turtles, who currently trail league leaders Kelantan by a single point, have started brightly themselves this season, winning three and losing one of the four games they have played thus far.

Nevertheless, Sundramoorthy is adamant that the recent win in Sabah, a victory achieved despite having Irwan Shah dismissed, could well prove to have been a key point in the campaign for the LIONSXII youngsters.

"I hope the away win (against Sabah) will be a turning point for us. It is very tough for a young team to go to Sabah and win but the boys were tactically disciplined and turned in a great defensive performance," he explained.

"This was a great match for the younger boys to experience and they showed that they've grown up.  We proved that we can play, this is what we want and I hope this will continue."
