Salgaocar SC look to strike form

Prayag United Sports Club will lock horns with the reigning I-League champions Salgaocar in Kolkata on Saturday.

While Salgaocar SC has struggled to find form and have a mere 6 points from 5 matches Prayag United SC have put in some good performances and are on 9 points from the same number. In a build up to the match the coaches had the following to say.
Salgaocar SC head coach Karim Bencharifa said "I am not worried about the points as of now. I am more concerned about the consistency of the team. As of now we are winning then losing again, so it’s important that we put in a good run and then we can think about moving up the table. As far as Prayag United SC is concerned, I have great respect for their team as for me they are potentially Championship material"

Karim added that "They have the quality in the team of and some core players have now been together for few years so they can be compared to Dempo. Furthermore they have an almost full strength squad and Yakubu is due to make a comeback from injury so it will be a difficult match for us".
On the other hand, head coach of Prayag United SC the home team said "We got past them 2-0 in the Federation but they are a quality team with a good mix of youth and experience. Being the current I-League Champions speaks for itself. Karim is an intelligent coach and will always have a game plan ready.  For the first phase of the I-League our target is to stay in the top 5 after which in the 2nd phase anything can happen. We are not concerned about relegation but rather looking forward to pushing towards a Championship challenge.”
Prayag United SC can win their home match they would move to 12 points and within knocking distance of McDowells Mohun Bagan and Kingfisher East Bengal who are due to play the Kolkata derby on Sunday. A win for either of them and Prayag could be level on points.
The kick-off is slated for 6:30 PM on 19th November.

Sporting Clube enjoy an edge

Sporting Clube de Goa Coach Ekendra Singh has told his side to forget about the disappointment of the last match and instead focus on their next I-League clash against Chirag United Kerala at the Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Saturday.

Sporting, on a high this season, were frustrated after being held to a goalless draw against Pailan Arrows. But coach Ekendra used the break to iron out the flaws and remains confident that his team will get back to winning ways.

“The break has helped us a bit. We have managed to tighten the loose ends and will be stronger now. I was not happy with the result in the last game (against Pailan Arrows) and believed full points were there for the taking, but we have put that disappointment behind us,” said Ekendra.

The return of South Sudan striker James Moga will be a major boost for Sporting Clube, so also the return from injury of winger Rovan Pereira and Joyner Lourenco. Jovel Martins and Rojen Singh will miss the clash due to a double booking.

“I have full confidence in my players. There will be minor disappointments here and there, but we have to look at the overall picture. I am quite happy with what we have done so far in the competition.

“I cannot quite rate Chirag United Kerala. Like all other teams, they have got their own strong points and we cannot leave anything to chance. We must approach this game like any other,” said the Sporting Clube chief coach.

Chirag United started with a good win under their belt, but since that opening win against HAL, the Kerala outfit has now gone without a point in four matches. That all of their losses have been narrow, including the 1-2 loss against defending champions Dempo Sports Club, is an altogether different tale.

Coach Nizam Packeer Ali will be bolstered by the possible debut of Anil Kumar, who is now back with the team, but without K. Ajayan and Ghanaian defender Charles Dzisah - both double booking - the going could get tough for the visitors.
