Having seen Home stretch their lead at the top of the table to five points thanks to the Protectors' 2-1 win over Woodlands Wellington on Monday, Tampines duly reduced the gap to two points to keep their title hopes well and truly alive.
Ismadi Mukhtar broke the deadlock for Tampines, the midfielder converting in the 26 minute. Veteran striker Alexandar Duric duly sealed the win with a penalty on 78 minutes.
Both Home and Tampines have four games left to play, with the two set for what could well be a title decider on November 23 at Tampines Stadium.
Elsewhere on Tuesday, Singapore Armed Forces recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over the Courts Young Lions.
Croatian midfielder Ivan Jerkovic scored after 11 and 81 minutes, before Fazrul Nawaz sealed the win that saw SAFFC further cement their fourth spot on the S-League ladder.
