Pune FC director, Nandan Piramal, said: “We are very happy to host them (Blackburn Rovers). The opportunity is great for the fans and on Pune FC’s behalf, I am happy to share this moment with the fans.”

The Barclays Premier League team had been originally scheduled to play in India on July 22, before the game was postponed.

October's clash is expected to kick-off under lights, with the exact time to be finalised at a later date.

This first-of-its-kind encounter, involving an English Premier League side against an Indian professional I-League club comes after parties recently decided on the date.

The English-based side’s trip to this part of the Indian sub-continent will be the first-ever by any Premier League squad.

Blackburn are currently one of the only four clubs to have won the Premier League, along with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.

Pune FC, established in 2007, have worked hard to beocme a model club in India, thanks in part to the vision they have adopted in running a football club.

Having qualified for the I-League in 2009, Pune FC has so far achieved top-5 finishes - a third place in their maiden year of the elite league and fifth place last season.
