Dunga, who was the captain of Brazil's 1994 World Cup-winning squad has been out of a job since the 2010 edition, where - as coach - he led the Selecao to a quarter-final exit in South Africa.
Al Rayyan have been on the hunt for a new coach since the departure of Paulo Autuori, who left take over at the helm of the Qatari Olympic team.
And it has now been revealed that Autuori has recommended compatriot Dunga to his former employers.
"Yes, Al Rayyan will be coached by Dunga," an Al Rayyan club official told AFP.
"His name was recommended by Autuori."
Al Rayyan finished the 2010/11 Qatar Stars League in third place, and have qualified for next season's AFC Champions League.
Should Dunga indeed be appointed as the new boss of Al Rayyan, he will be handed the task of landing the club's first league title since 1995.
