Korea rocked by Koo injury blow

Korea Republic's World Cup qualifying plans have been dealt a blow with news that Koo Ja-cheol is set for a spell on the sidelines because of injury.

According to reports on the Asian Football Confederation's official website, the talented Wolfsburg midfielder suffered ligament damage earlier this week, and will now be out of action for three months.

Koo's injury will see him miss the start of Korea Republic's 2014 FIFA World Cup fourth round qualifiers in which the 2011 AFC Asian Cup semi-finalists will play the UAE, Kuwait and Lebanon in Group B.

News of Koo's enforced absence represents a double whammy for Korea Republic after Bolton Wanderers ace Lee Ching-yong recently broke his leg in a pre-season friendly.

Korea Republic's first qualifier is at home against Lebanon on September 2.
