Diego Maradona has kicked off his stint at Al Wasl by conducting his first coaching session with the UAE club.

The Argentina legend, who has already signed Uruguayan forward Juan Manuel Olivera, joined the Al Wasl side in a blaze of publicity last month.

Maradona, whose last coaching job was with Argentina at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, was naturally excited by the opportunities ahead.

"I am more than excited to be back and I am anxious to start working with the team," the Asian Football Confederation's official website quoted him as saying.

"I have been constantly thinking of different training methods and new strategies while I was away, even while I was on the plane.

"There are new ideas formulating in my head and I can't wait to start implementing them on the ground," he concluded.

Marwan Bin Bayat, chairman of Al Wasl, said: "Maradona is not only a guest of Al Wasl, but for Dubai as a whole. As such, we are absolutely certain that he will love his new home and can speak for the entire city when we say, 'We are happy to have you here'."

The new UAE league is scheduled to start in October.
