Shanghai SIPG travel to Nanjing in the hopes of protecting their one goal advantage in the second leg of their AFC Champions League match on Wednesday.
In the first leg, while it was visitors Jiangsu that opened the scoring early through Colombian Roger Martinez, Hulk and Odil Ahmedov sent the crowd into raptures with goals of their own, making sure of the home win for SIPG last week.
But that opening goal in Shanghai keeps Jiangsu well in the all-Chinese tie, as the Red Eagles will likely have to go searching for an away goal to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
Brazilian import Hulk was an enormous presence for Shanghai last time out, being a constant threat around the box and setting up Ahmedov for the winner. Head coach Andre Villas-Boas will be hoping for more of the same from Hulk, who has five goals to his name for the tournament.
SIPG arrive in Nanjing off the back of a confidence boosting 5-1 crushing of Beijing Guoan in the Chinese Super League on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Jiangsu have enjoyed a superlative run in the 2017 AFC Champions League, winning five out of their seven matches so far. Ramires has proved to be a trump card for Jiangsu, as the Brazilian has scored four goals.
On the domestic front, Jiangsu drew 2-2 away to Guizhou Zhicheng in Saturday’s Chinese Super League action. However, Choi Yong-soo’s men will no doubt be buoyed be their home support at a venue they have lost just once at this tournament.
