JPV Marikina got their 2018 Philippines Football League campaign off to a dream start on Saturday as they beat Global Cebu 2-1 at the Marikina Sports Complex.
Keigo Moriyasu opened the scoring for JPV when he found the back of the net after 13 minutes, before Ryuki Kozawa doubled their lead in the 75th minute.
Dominic Del Rosario managed to pull one back for the visitors a minute from time but it proved to be too little too late, as JPV held on to the win in the opening game of the PFL’s second season.
Meanwhile, Sunday’s game saw Davao Aguilas come from two goals down to force a 2-2 draw against Kaya FC-Iloilo at the Davao del Norte Sports Complex.
Kaya initially looked to be cruising to victory courtesy of Alfred Osei’s 18th-minute opener, which was followed up by a Connor Tacagni strike four minutes into the second half.
But Philippines international James Younghusband emerged as the saviour for Davao, reducing the deficit in the 51st minute before striking again seven minutes later to earn his side a share of the spoils.
