Hariss, who became Singapore's youngest ever international when he made his senior debut in 2007, hobbled off shortly before half-time during their 1-0 Group B defeat to Indonesia on Wednesday.

Subsequent scans revealed the 22-year-old had sustained a fracture in his right shin that could now leave the LIONSXII star sidelined for upto two months.

"The X-rays that were done in the morning have confirmed the fracture," Singapore team media officer Visakan Subramanian told the media on Thursday.

"Hariss has been told to take a break for six to eight weeks to allow the injury to heal.

"Hariss is devastated and we feel sorry for him but that's football and injuries are part of the game. I spoke to him after he got back from the hospital and he was really down. Hopefully, he will come back stronger."

Hariss, who also missed the 2008 and 2010 editions of Southeast Asia’s premier event through injury, was unsurprisingly quick to voice his disappointment.

"It is frustrating to be injured again, and to be unable to help the team,” he told Singapore’s Today newspaper,

"However, I am confident that we have the depth and ability to do well for the rest of the tournament," he added.

Singapore must avoid defeat against Laos on Saturday to ensure a place in the semi-finals.
