Joao Mario's father, Joao Mario Eduardo, has confirmed the Manchester United target would indeed prefer to ply his trade in England, should he leave Sporting Lisbon.
The Portugal international has attracted interest from several big clubs in Europe, following his splendid performances for Lisbon this season, with the Red Devils reported to be very keen to bring the 23-year-old over to Old Trafford.
However, they face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, who have been reported to have already made an offer for Mario's services, which was rejected by Sporting.
"That’s what we will evaluate when I meet Sporting," Eduardo told Diario de Noticias.
"I’m in Luanda and I’ll be back on Thursday, then we’ll talk. Joao has offers but he can stay as well.
"If he leaves Sporting, his preference is England."
João Mário moved to Sporting Lisbon in 2004 at the age of 11. His first professional debut came on December 14, 2011 when he was called for a Europa League group stage tie against Lazio.
Since then, the winger has gone on to make over 100 league appearances for the Lions, scoring over 30 goals.
