New VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Julian Draxler says he left Schalke 04 for a fresh challenge, but also to get away from the 'pressure and expectation' at his former club.
The highly-rated Germany international joined Die Wolfe on transfer deadline day, ending a 14-year spell at his boyhood club.
And the 23-year-old feels the pressure place on him at Schalke 04 was debilitating, with many fans expecting him to deliver a long-awaited Bundesliga title.
"I became convinced that I would not manage to withstand the pressure and expectation at Schalke," he told Kicker.
"Even after six months of injury, I felt that I should decide matches almost single-handedly. Because of that I realised that it was time to go, and there are other ways of doing things.
"I have the feeling I now must provide even more in training to get games [at Wolfsburg]. This is exactly what I need."
