Jack Wilshere will not return to contention for Arsenal this weekend after all, with the midfielder having suffered a setback in his recovery from a leg injury.
The England international has not featured for the Gunners this season after sustaining a hairline fracture to his left fibula during training ahead of the Community Shield.
Wilshere was initially expected to make his comeback for Arsene Wenger's side after the international break, but that return has now been put on hold indefinitely.
Speaking to reporters, Wenger said: "I have not seen him in the last two or three days. He is progressing slowly and I can't tell you much more about it.
"I will talk with my medical staff today. It is slower than expected as I expected him to be back and available after the break but unfortunately he will not be available for Saturday.
"He had a little setback and I have to know about it but I can't tell you much more as I have no medical information."
Wenger also revealed that Danny Welbeck will be sidelined "certainly until Christmas" as the striker recovers from knee surgery.
