Las Palmas fans were treated to an entertaining game of football as Quique Setien’s men cruised to a 4-0 victory over Espanyol in a one-sided La Liga clash at Estadio Gran Canaria on Friday night.
Just when it seemed like the first half would end goalless, the hosts claimed the lead on the stroke of half-time. Nabil El Zhar latched onto a pinpoint pass from Jonathan Viera before slotting home from a tight angle.
And Viera turned goalscorer four minutes into the second half, firing into the bottom-left corner from the centre of the box to double Las Palmas’ advantage.
Espanyol never managed to recover, and the hosts stretched further ahead in the 56th minute, Pedro Bigas heading into the bottom-left corner from a Viera cross.
The Yellows didn’t ease off on their opponents despite boasting a comfortable three-goal lead, and stretched further ahead in the 75th minute, Mubarak Wakaso slotting home from the left-hand side of the box following Willian José’s inviting cross into the danger area.
Espanyol had two great chances to reduce the deficit in the final ten minutes of encounter, but Hernán Pérez saw his goal-bound effort kept out in the 82nd minute, before firing just inches wide of the mark one minute from full-time.
