Bayern München midfielder Mario Gotze is edging closer to a return after he trained for the first time since suffering an abductor injury in October.
Gotze suffered the injury while representing Germany in a Euro 2016 qualifier against the Republic of Ireland on October 14.
The 23-year-old only started running drills last month, but Bayern are optimistic that he will be back on the pitch sooner rather than later after he took part in his first training session.
“Mario Gotze had to wait nearly fourth months but now he is nearing his comeback,” a Bayern statement said. “The Germany international was part of Bayern team training on Monday morning for the first time since his serious adductor injury.”
Due to his injury, Gotze has been limited to just 11 appearances in all competitions this season and has scored four goals and recorded two assists.
