Bayern München have signed Spartak Moscow centre-back Serdar Tasci on loan for the rest of the season.
Should Tasci impress during his stint with the reigning Bundesliga champions, there is an optioin for the deal to be made permanent in the summer.
Bayern have signed Tasci as cover, with Javi Martinez and Jerome Boateng sidelined by injury. Martinez is currently recovering from damaged knee ligaments, while Boateng has been ruled out for three months with a groin muscle tear.
Just a day ago, the club’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said that Bayern would not be signing any defensive reinforcements, but they jumped at the chance to bolster their defence by bringing Tasci over from Spartak.
“We’re delighted at the opportunity to bring a player like Serdar Tasci to FC Bayern at short notice,” sporting director Matthias Sammer told the club’s official website. “Thanks to his quality and experience, he’s in a position to help us at once.”
Tasci, who has been in Spartak’s starting line-up for 16 out of 18 games this season, is determined to impress during his tenure with Bayern and is also looking to become a major asset for the Bavarians.
“I’m feeling very good and I’m really looking forward to the new challenge. I hope I can be of assistance to the team,” he said.
