Benteke setback for Liverpool

Liverpool are sweating over the fitness of Christian Benteke after the striker was ruled out of Wednesday's Capital One Cup clash with a knee injury.

The Reds are yet to confirm the severity of the injury, which the Belgium international sustained in the 1-1 draw with Southampton on Sunday.

He will definitely miss the midweek clash with Bournemouth, leaving manager Jurgen Klopp with precious few options up-front.

Daniel Sturridge is currently nursing a knee injury of his own, meaning Divock Origi is the currently the club's only fit first-team striker.

Summer signing Danny Ings, meanwhile, is facing a six-month lay-off after undergoing surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament.

Another new signing, Roberto Firmino, could be deployed in a more advanced role if Origi does not lead the line for the Reds, while youngster Jerome Sinclair could also be handed the chance to impress.
