Victolero hopes hulking Bowers Star’s answer to Brownlee, Durham

Chito Victolero immediately liked what he saw following Star’s first day of practice with new import Cinmeon Bowers on Monday at the Ronac gym in San Juan.

While he’s still bulky at 245 pounds, Victolero said the 6-5 Bowers can run the floor and can even be the team’s “point forward” for the PBA Governors’ Cup scheduled to open this July 19.

“He’s more active on both ends defense and offense. Saka yung defense niya, ganda siya mag-react, maganda ang motor nito, very athletic, plus the fact na sanay siya maglaro ng point forward, puwede maglaro ng small at big,” Victolero told FOX Sports, shortly after practice.

With still about 2 weeks to go before the start of the season-ending conference, Victolero is confident that Bowers can get back to shape since his last stint with last pro league stint with Gallil Elion in the Israeli League.

The former Auburn Tiger forward averaged near double-double of 18.1 points and 8.9 rebounds, along with 2.3 assists in 30 games in the Israeli League.

Victolero said despite having a physically-strong import in Bowers, he still picks Ginebra, San Miguel and Meralco as the teams to beat in the Governors Cup since they are bringing imports, who are tried and tested already.

“Actually, tinitingnan natin diyan yung datihang magagaling. Basehan kasi diyan si (Justin) Brownlee, (Eugene) Phelps, (Allen) Durham sa ganitong mga klaseng imports na nag-dominate,” shared Victolero.

With his bulk and experience, Bowers could be the Hotshots’ answer to returning PBA imports led by San Miguel’s Wendell McKines, Phelps, Durham, who led Meralco to a runner-up finish last season, along with Brownlee, who will be entering his third stint with the defending champion Barangay Ginebra.
