10) Craig Gardner - Sunderland vs Wigan (4 January 2012)
We all love a good free-kick and Sunderland's Craig Gardner gets the ball rolling on our list with this fabulous effort against Wigan. With the outside of his right boot, Gardner swerves the ball past the wall and into the corner of the net. It was so well struck that Wigan goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi had hardly moved before he saw the net rippling around him.
9) Ashley Young - Blackburn Rovers vs Manchester United (3 April 2012)
Team goals are often overlooked but we believe there were few better this season than Manchester United's second goal scored in their 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers. Ashley Young finally putting the ball into the back of the net after no less than 37 passes. This goal also gets high marks for performance under pressure as it sealed a massive win for the club at the time; United went five points clear of title rivals Manchester City as a result. As the chart (created using the FourFourTwo Stats Zone app) shows, Rovers only managed 92 successful passes in the second half against United who achieved 37 alone for that one goal scored by Young.
8) Bryan Ruiz - Fulham vs Everton (23 October 2011)
Fulham's Bryan Ruiz joined last summer with a big transfer fee weighing over his head and truth be told the Costa Rica forward has not lived up to expectations. However, he has shown some signs of the ability which persuaded the club to reportedly fork out over £10.6 million for the player. His stunning chip over Everton's Tim Howard in October last year is a prime example.
7) Juan Mata - Chelsea vs Manchester United (6 February 2012)
Chelsea fans did not have much to cheer about under manager Andre Villas-Boas this season but Juan Mata's side-foot volley goal against Manchester United must have brought some joy to Stamford Bridge. The Spaniard's very cool finish on his left foot from just outside the six yard box rifled into the roof of the United net. Great technique shown by the Spaniard here to hit the ball hard and to keep it on target when he could've easily ballooned the ball into row Z.
6) Robin van Persie - Arsenal vs Everton (10 December 2011)
If ever there was a strike which cost you the game but did not make you feel so bad about it in the morning then it was Arsenal ace Robin van Persie's winner against Everton in December 2011. The Dutchman peeled away from his marker as team-mate Alex Song lofted the ball forward nonchalantly. And as the ball dropped he struck it so perfectly that it flashed past Everton's Tim Howard and into the far post in a blink of an eye. Not much the Everton defenders could about the goal except applaud.
5) Kyle Walker - Tottenham Hotspur vs Blackburn Rovers (29 April 2012)
Tottenham full-back Kyle Walker capped off a brilliant season at White Hart Lane with one of the best goals of the campaign. It was a goal from a free-kick outside the box which went over the wall and curved past the helpless Paul Robinson in the Rovers goal. When you are just 21-years old and can already ‘Bend it like Beckham' you know you have a bright future ahead.
4) Luis Suarez - Norwich City vs Liverpool (29 April 2012)
Liverpool endured a forgettable season in front of goal this campaign - the Reds must have hit every part of the frame of the goal over the course of 38 league games. Luis Suarez was certainly a culprit for a few bad misses this season but on the 29th of April he produced a bit of magic against Norwich which will probably be replayed countless times for many more seasons to come. The Uruguayan received the ball just inside his own half before taking a touch to take him away from his marker and then producing an absurd lob 45 yards from goal over opposition goalkeeper John Ruddy. Sheer brilliance!
3) Hatem Ben Arfa - Newcastle United vs Bolton Wanderers (9 April 2012)
It's hard to describe the next goal justly but we'll try. Newcastle United's Hatem Ben Arfa is about 60 yards from goal with his back to the opposition when he gets the ball. A clever first touch allows him to spin away from his marker who is on his backside by the time Ben Arfa's burst of pace takes him straight down the middle of the pitch and past a further three Bolton defenders before he simply passes the ball into the back of the net. It was more like the type of goal you score while playing a video game not in real life. However, this still isn't the best goal we've seen all season.
2) Papiss Demba Cisse - Chelsea vs Newcastle (3 May 2012)
It's never easy to score a goal using the outside of the boot. It's even harder when the angle is working against you. Try telling all that to Newcastle striker Papiss Demba Cisse who scored a wonder goal against Chelsea in May this year. The Senegal international sliced through the ball using his right foot as it bounced just outside the right hand corner of the Chelsea penalty box. This put a wicked ‘banana' shaped swerve on the ball which beat Petr Cech for the goal.
1) Peter Crouch - Stoke City vs Manchester City (25 March 2012)
Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has been one of the players of the season for the newly crowned Barclays Premier League champions. However, he was made to look like an average Joe by Stoke striker Peter Crouch during a March clash at the Britannia. The England international's turn and volley left his countryman clutching at air. And this lands Crouch straight into number one spot on our Goals of the Season list for the 2011/12 Barclays Premier League season.
Honourable mention: Sergio Aguero - Manchester City vs QPR (13 May 2012)
It wasn't the most breathtaking goal scored over the season in terms of individual skill but there was no other goal more important than this one. When Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero scored in stoppage time to secure a 3-2 victory against QPR it was an event felt by millions around the world. And as a result deserves a special mention here.
