Man Utd vs Stoke Player Ratings

A comfortable win for Manchester United after they converted two penalties and go level on points with Manchester City at the top.

Crouch winning the header.

Man Utd

Ben Amos - 6
A decent cover for the first team, but was barely tested by the big strong Stoke players.

Jonny Evans - 6
Kept things simple and did surprisingly well to keep a clean sheet against a side with the tallest average height in the Premier League.

Rio Ferdinand - 7
Read the game well and slowly returning to his best for United. Crouch was no match in the air for the England centre-back in this game.

Patrice Evra - 7
Got clipped in the penalty box in one of his foraging runs forward, but surely the referee won't give THREE penalties in one game?

Chris Smalling - 6.5
The only player who could be found on the right whenever United went forward. Despite being played out of position, he did a decent job shutting Walters out.

Paul Scholes - 7.5
An excellent passer of the ball who made the crucial pass which led to the first penalty. Yet another solid display in the middle of the park and United fans are surely glad he is back.

Michael Carrick - 7
Complimented Scholes well in the middle and was not wasteful with possession. A bit narrow with his passes, but he got the job done and the three points at the end of the day.

Combined well with Scholes to dominate the game. Between them, Carrick and Scholes completed 50 more passes (242) than the whole of the Stoke team (192).

Park Ji-Sung - 7
His energetic runs were an asset for United in both ends of the field. Looks like three-lung-Park would be in the United starting XI for the next few games.

Antonio Valencia - 7.5
Another industrious performance on the right, waltzing past defenders like they weren't there and whipping in quality balls for his centre forwards.

Dimitar Berbatov - 7
A couple of neat touches and flicks to distribute and spread the play. It would be to his team's advantage if he was on the end of crosses instead of the "Little Pea", though.

Javier Hernández (73' off) - 6.5
Looked a tad rusty but made up for it with his off the ball movement, making life miserable for the Stoke defence.

Paul Pogba (73' on) - 7
Made a significant contribution after his introduction showing great desire to win possessions and make runs forward, unlike the two Stoke substites.

Thomas Sorensen - 6.5
Was so close to keeping out Berbatov's penalty after making the right guess, but being beaten by two penalties without having anything else to do must have really left him with a bitter taste of defeat.

Robert Huth - 6
The no nonsense defender had a good first half but eventually let his frustration get the better of him after making a series of late tackles and got himself in the referee's book soon after.

Ryan Shawcross - 6.5
Barely put a foot wrong in the game but his wingers did more harm than good when they came back to do their defensive duties.

Marc Wilson - 5.5
Could not control the red hot Valencia, who gave him all sorts of problems throughout the game. Could not escape from his own half, and even when he did Smalling and Valencia could easily win possession back.

Andy Wilkinson - 5
The poor boy was made to look like a amateur whenever Park and Evra paid him a visit down his right.

Dean Whitehead - 6
He must have been exhausted, both physically and mentally as he covered the most ground statistically but had to surrender to the links of Scholes and Carrick.

Wilson Palacios (75' off) - 6.5
The ball-winning midfielder made numerous successful interceptions and tackles or else United would have been totally rampant.

Jermaine Pennant - 6
A rash tackle from him on Park left the referee no choice but to point to the spot. Services from the wide positions and set pieces were disappointing as well.

Jonathan Walters (75' off) - 6
Worked his socks off playing as a left winger, but his needless pull back on Valencia gave United a second penalty and a comfortable two goal cushion.

Kenwyne Jones - 6
Matthew Etherington's delivery from the left was sorely missed in the game as he was feeding on scraps upfront together with Crouch.

Peter Crouch (58' off) - 4
Just a spectator in the game. Barely had a touch of the ball and could not win the headers nor hold the ball long enough for his team mates join him in attack.

Cameron Jerome (58' on) - 6.5
A force to be reckoned with in the air, making an immediate impact on the game.

Rory Delap (75' on)

Ricardo Fuller (75' on)
